Painting of Waxen Winged Father and Son and fall of an Unknown –Dr. Faustus. Fall of Icarus

Waxen Winged Father and Son and fall of an Unknown –Dr. Faustus.

                                Fall of Icarus

We know the story about Dr. Faustus and his quest about living long and also about his downfall of life. The image of Icarus is used in the opening passage to characterize the Fall of Faustus.
Icarus was a figure in classical mythology who because of his pride had soared too high in the sky, had melted his wax wings, and subsequently had fallen to his death. The classical image of the fall of Icarus reinforce the Christian images of the fall of Lucifer brought in Scene 3.

It was long thought to be by the leading painter of  Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting, Pieter Bruegel the Elder. However, following technical examinations in 1996 of the painting hanging in the Brussels museum that attribution is regarded as very doubtful, and the painting, perhaps painted in the 1560s, is now usually seen as a good early copy by an unknown artist of Bruegel's lost original, perhaps from about 1558. According to the museum: "It is doubtful the execution is by Breugel the Elder, but the composition can be said with certainty to be his" although recent technical research has re-opened the question. That is the basic information which i took from the Wikipedia, but there was another story connected with this painting.

The another story of the character Dr.Faustus related with the story of Icarus. To gain Waxen Wings he was become powerful and so that he has such kind of pride on his wings that with it he can do anything and also he reach anywhere. Like that Dr. Faustus also have such pride on his knowledge that he knows everything. But after some time his strength becomes course for him. His knowledge is ruin his life. He bag for his life in front of God. So it is the fall Of Dr. Faustus like a fall of Icarus.
